Exploring Another Mystery

So it’s taken me a while to realize this, but when women wear hats, it seems like it’s more because they don’t want to wash/mess with their hair than it is a style thing.

I mean, THANKfully, hats are stylish, too. But I think I’m realizing it’s more a matter of Hair Hassle than style. Not saying it’s a bad thing, just, you know…

So what do you think? Style-driven? Hair Hassle? Wash hassle? Shampoo low? Love the grit? Back to nature? Combo?

And what other tricks do they have?

This is very specific to me. I don't know if other women are this way. I personally wear hats to create an ambiance or get into a different side of myself, usually a slightly more masculine part of Val. It's more fun (and ,I have found, is a great way to attract young men). As far as hair goes, I find that I only feel attractive in hats if my hair is a little bit messy and whisping out from the edges of the hat. Every once in a while I use it to cover greasiness but it's usually to invite a more fun, silly, slightly sarcastic side of myself to bloom. :)

Hats tend to make me HAVE bad hair. So I only use when hiking. I could be a gorgeous hiker if not for the hat thing.

And why should be tell you our tricks?

Ah, so you DO have tricks. Point 2-Why should you tell? Why? Why? Because I've known you longer than just about anybody in your hometown? Since you were 16? Or 17? Okay, maybe 18? (Still not persuaded, are you? Well, I could've figured that--because I've known you since you were 16, 17, okay 18!)

I think I tell because it's one of those things that you think "if anyone ever asked about this I would know exactly what to say." It's one of those details that everyone figures out for themselves, but not very many people talk about. I also tell because I think it's one of those great opportunities to say something about yourself to someone who will take it in and love you for it.

I met you at 15, but we weren't friends until 16. But we didn't get to the "middle o the onion" - if I may use a Shrekian metaphor- until I was 17.

How do YOU feel about hats?..personally?
